On a second attempt to locate and climb Scafell, two men became benighted on Long Top, Crinkle Crags… no torches and Google maps… they were located via SARLOC and assisted back to their car parked at Three Shires Stone… it’s OK Wasdale MRT, you can thank us later

A man was reported overdue from a paragliding trip. His partner had located his vehicle in Grasmere but he was not with it. An initial hasty search was organised, followed by a more prolonged and complex search involving team members, search dogs, and a Coastguard helicopter. This was unsuccessful, and ended around 2am. A further search was planned and implemented at first light, involving team members from multiple other Lake District MRTs, and search dogs from the Lakes, England and Southern Scotland, with the man being found around 10:15am, seriously injured. He was treated by MRT members, then lifted by Coastguard Helicopter to a location from where he could be transferred to an air ambulance and flown to hospital.

A male was reported unwell, shaking and unable to continue on the path to Loughrigg. The team responded and he was evacuated to an ambulance
We were in the middle of a day hosting a group for Norwegian People’s Aid (Norsk Folkehjelp) who came along to assist… it’s rare to have such a well attended rescue!

A male suffered a dislocated shoulder while ascending Jack’s Rake. The shoulder popped back put left our casualty in a lot of pain. They were recovered to the base of the Rake, from where they were assisted in walking the rest of the way down. We were assisted by a Coastguard helicopter and Kendal MRT

A dog slipped and fell down the waterfall at Stockghyll, landing in a pool at about half way, before climbing on to a ledge in between the two main columns of the fall.
A protracted and technical rescue took please to successfully recover the dog and return to to it’s owner
We were assisted by Kendal MRT

An Apple emergency alert was received by their call Centre in the USA. It filtered through the system and eventually ended up with us… We investigated and found nothing and were unable to contact the number provided. Eventually a ‘stand down’ filtered through as well… there’s definitely room for improvement with this!

We were requested to search for a despondent male reported in Langdale. A search was organised and he was located by members of RAF Lemming MRT near Stickler Tarn in the early hours. We were assisted by Police, Keswick and RAF Leeming MRTs, and dears has dogs

A broken, dropped phone call suggested a casualty on Side Pike. We were able to get a location from the 999 call. We responded and located a woman with a knee injury. She was assisted from the hill and made her own way to hospital

Two figured were spotted high on Loft/Raven Crag and reported as cragfast. A team members travelled hastily to try and get sight before it went dark, but could see nothing. After conversation with various witnesses it was decided to take no further action. One possibility is two climbers topping out, combines with a farmer gathering sheep, combined to give a confusing position… false alarm with good intent

Concerns were raised when a dog was located running free at School Knott. The team were asked to search for the man who hadn’t been heard from since around midday. A number of lines of enquiry were followed before it was identified that th missing was was the same person who had been airlifted unconscious by air ambulance around lunchtime, having been trampled by cows

A woman in a walking group felt unable to continue, so the group leader called for help. This was being organised when we were notified that she’d rallied and was able to walk down with assistance, so we stood down. We monitored their descent electronically to confirm they got down

A man reported himself lost and disorientated in the region of Crinkle Crags. A search was organised and team members were deployed when he made contact with other people who were confident that they could assist him. They guided him to Three Tarns and pointed him downhill. The team stood down

A couple were unable to continue when they were overcome by snow and cold. They were located and assisted from the hill in very difficult conditions, during which a helicopter attempted to assist but was unable due to severe weather. Team members endured strong winds and heavy, deep snow. If we had not been able to locate them and get them down, it's fair to say the outcome could have been significantly different

A young woman was reported missing with her last known location being reported as Pavey Ark on the 26th. A search was delayed until morning due to the time that had already elapsed, and the dangerous nature of the ground and poor weather. Sadly, a hasty team located the young woman's body around 9 am
She was recovered to Ambleside
Our deepest sympathies go to the young woman's family and friends

In another uncharacteristic pre-lunch call Keswick MRT asked us to attend an incident just across the border between us. They were already committed to an incident on Helvellyn White Side (14) - Keswick Mountain Rescue (keswickmrt.org.uk)
A woman sustained a fractured ankle when she slipped in Wythburn
She was given pain relief and evacuated by stretcher

A young woman phoned for help when overwhelmed by weather at Esk Hause. Very poor phone signal meant information was scant so we set off equipped for most eventualities. She was located uninjured at the bottom of Rossett Ghyll having been assisted down by two other people

Questionable decision making led to a couple going on to the high fells despite warnings of the approaching storm Isha. Forced to abandon a heavy rucsack they found themselves unable to continue and called for help. With considerable difficulty they were recovered in a joint effort by LAMRT, Patterdale, and RAF Leeming and Valley MRTs. A Coastguard helicopter also attempted access but was unable due to extreme weather conditions

A woman reported double ankle injuries in a slip. She tried to continue to move but was unable. The team was called, with Kendal MRT assisting. The woman was winched in to Rescue 199 Coastguard helicopter and her husband and dog returned to the valley in the company of team members

We were tasked to assist other emergency services when heavy snow hit the area.
During this period we dealt with various incidents incuding:
Potential cardiac arrest
Suspect CVA
Head injuries caused by an assault
An elderly male in need of help after carers were unable to attend him
A suspected spinal fracture from a sledging accident
And several urgent medication requests

A man was reported as having become separated from his boat with the boat still circling him on Windermere. A multi-agency response was initiated. We were able to stand down while responding when it was confirmed that he had been recovered from the water

A climber reported himself cragfast after soloing part way up Crescent Climb on Pavey Ark before encountering wet rock. Unable to retreat he called for help. Having time to reconsider his position, he then contacted us to say that with help from another climber, her was able to get off. At this point we were able to stand down

We were requested to assist in a search for a solo walker who hadn’t been heard from while doing the Coast to Coast walk. We checked the ‘normal’ route through our area, failing to locate him. He was subsequently located outside our area, trapped between two swollen rivers and having made the sensible decision to wait for water levels to drop. He was recovered

A man tripped and sustained fractured wrist very close to the summit of Bowfell. The wrist was deformed and very painful. A discussion was had and the casualty and friend they agreed to attempt to keep moving towards Angle Tarn. The team were on the way when we were notified that an air ambulance had managed to uplift the casualty

We’d only just completed the previous rescue when we were notified of a second incident on Long Top, Crinkle Crag. We attended, along with members of Kendal MRT. The female casualty had sustained a suspected lower leg fracture. She was treated and then evacuated below the cloud base and picked up Coastguard helicopter. An air ambulance had attempted to assist but was unable due to high winds
