Incident Report #65 2023
Tuesday
01/08/23, 12:56
Sometimes we have an incident that just leaved you baffled and perplexed... a family group 'lost' a 19-year-old member when she 'wandered off' on the way to Loft Crag. Our 'normal' procedure in these circumstances is to contain the remaining group and locate the missing person, however this does require a certain level of cooperation from the group and this was not forthcoming... by 1830 all members of the group had been accounted for with the original lost person turning up in Langstrath, and another one who'd gone 'searching' for her located at Stake Pass... sometimes people just have to take a bit of responsibility for their actions. things like knowing where you've parked your car and what route you were taking can be really helpful pieces of information... and telling us you need a helicopter won't necessarily get you one!

Incident Report #52 2023
Sunday
09/07/23, 15:11
A man and woman became separated while walking over Crinkle Crags. The man waited at Three Tarns then reported the woman missing. She eventually turned up at the Old Dungeon Ghyll car park having somehow passed him at Three Tarns and continuing her walk over Bowfell in the hope of catching him up... which, given he had descended The Band when he gave up, was pretty unlikely. We can only assume the drive home was a tense one...

Ask yourself three questions:
Do I know what the weather is going to do?
Do I have the skills?
Do I have the right equipment?

Incident Report #23 2023
Sunday
19/03/23, 19:42
A phone call was received by police stating a problem finding a way off Bowfell. The call was dropped and no further contact was possible. We monitored the situation overnight, but when there was no further communication by mid-morning we escalated the incident and organised a search. Thankfully a chat with staff from the Old Dungeon Ghyll alerted us to 4 young men who they had seen around midnight, cold, wet and trying to get back to their holiday accommodation. We located them and confirmed that they were the same people who had made the 999 call. We were able to go home
The moral of this story is that if you dial 999 for help, you also need to advise when you no longer require help!
