Incident Report #89 2006

Rock climbing, benighted, cragfast

29/10/06, 18:30

White Ghyll, Gt Langdale

Sunday

Two climbers suffered a momentary lack of reason when they decided to set off to White Ghyll to do some climbing at 3.30pm without a torch! Inevitably they became stuck soon after the sun set! We located them by their shouts and the dim glow of their mobile phone. They were escorted off. For goodness sake, a torch is a such a simple bit of kit, very reliable and long lasting, especially modern LED lamps. They don't cost much and are very effective. There are very few circumstances when it is excusable to go into the hills without one!! Although there are a great many available you can't go far wrong with Petzl Tikka. If you don't already own one, go and buy one tomorrow and stick it in a rucsac pocket.,
