Incident Report #57 2006

Another mountain marathon competitor sustained a leg injury that meant she was unable to bear any weight on it. The team went to assist. A search and rescue helicopter offered to help, and airlifted team members to a position close to the injured woman, and then airlifted all of us back down again. It turned out that the woman had been injured the previous day. Messages left with other passing competitors didn't make it through to the police. We don't know why. They subsequently spent the night out on the hill. Eventually her running partner had got sick of waiting and had descended to raise the alarm himself. We were on our way home when we were told of another incident, back in the same area. We turned round to attend, but only got to the end of Mickleden before checks revealed that finally a message had got through about our earlier casualty, and we had already completed the job!
